Working in partnership with Skillnets and our contracting organisation, the Irish Medtech Association (Ibec sector), the Irish Medtech Association Skillnet has over the past number of years grown substantially in direct response to the training needs of industry. Total expenditure (2008-2015) is over €4.2 million, with 40% contribution from member companies and the remaining 60% funded by the state. Targets of over 6,000 trainees and 30,000 training days have been achieved.

BioPharmaChem (BPC) Skillnet was established in 2006 with the aim of fostering a climate of whole-company development in the provision of Industry Specific technical and non-technical training within the Pharmaceutical, BioPharma, Chemical, and Medical Device sectors. BPC Skillnet is a national government funded network that supports the growth and development of global and indigenous organisations across Ireland.

Engineering Skillnet work with companies in the Engineering sector to address skills gaps and provide industry-specific training programmes through government funding.

First Polymer Training (FPT) Skillnet operates as an enterprise led training network for the Irish polymer industry and is funded by Skillnet Ireland and member companies. The network is in operation since 1999, initiated and promoted by Polymer Technology Ireland (Ibec). First Polymer Training’s objective is to provide subsidised technical training to industry, both at its technical training centre in Athlone or in-company as required. The centre in Athlone is a state of the art facility with a range of injection moulding machines, an extruder, a thermoformer and purpose built maintenance training boards.
First Polymer Training is the sole QQI validated provider of a range of polymer specific programmes and also works closely with Athlone and Sligo Institutes of Technology on delivering 3rd level polymer programmes for industry.
There are 140 companies currently in membership engaged in polymer processing, across the MedTech, automotive, construction and electronics sectors.
