Cormac Mac Donncha
Vice President Operations
Thermo King EMEA
In his role, Cormac is responsible for the operational aspects of our TK EMEA business with revenues of over $1Bn. This business consists of our EMEA Truck, Trailer, Bus (TTB) businesses as well our global, Marine, Rail and Air (MRA) businesses. Our TTB business is supported by factories in Spain, Ireland, Germany and the Czech Republic. The MRA business is supported by our factories in Wujiang (China), Hastings, (Nebraska, USA) and Johannesburg (South Africa).
Cormac joined Thermo King in 2000 and filled a number of roles across Manufacturing Engineering, Production Management, Materials Management and Factory Management before being appointed as VP of Operations for TK EMEA in early 2020.
He has considerable manufacturing experience in the Automotive, Aerospace, Medical, High-volume Metal Enclosures and Electric Motor sectors. He has also managed an Engineering Design Consultancy and lectured in a University for 5 years. He is currently carrying out a part-time, pro-bono role as Chairman of the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology which has just merged to become the Atlantic Technological University, the 3rd biggest university in Ireland.
Cormac deploys an analytical approach. He has been a keen practitioner of Lean and a designer of smart supply chains for the last 25 years. He has recently become a strong advocate of Industrie 4.0. This work has seen the Galway plant introduce more than 30 robots and Automatically Guided Vehicles (AGVs) over the last 3 years. It has also led to the insourcing of digital capabilities to drive many low investment cost/high impact advances in manufacturing. The TK EMEA Operations team are now starting to introduce robotic cells and digitalization into our Barcelona operations. Some of the processes that the team have been developing are of ‘break-through’ significance. This first user advantage will allow us to keep our competitive advantage.
Cormac has also overseen the establishment of an Automation Centre in TK Galway, where we offer second chance educational opportunities to employees who can access a four year, degree programme in Automation Engineering. His involvement with GMIT proved very useful as the programme now carries international university recognition. The Automation Centre was designed and has been well supported by the Irish government and by leading automation component and system suppliers.
Cormac has an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, a higher diploma in Quality and an MBA from the Kelley School in Indiana University.
